Dirty on PurposeNorthsix, Brooklyn April 6th, 2004 Review by Cameron Photo and gallery by Jin You know what's great about Dirty on Purpose? Do you really know? No, it's not just that they're a good band. Not just that everyone loves them. Not just that when I spilled a smoothie on my DoP T-Shirt, it was actually dirty, and that made me laugh. It's that they are, and I suppose have always been, 100% regular. They are regular people who like regular music, who play regular instruments to regular crowds. They smoke pot. They fall in love and write lyrics about it. They say breif, quaintly bizarre things into their mics beofre launching a song. And yet. And yet, they blow you away. Every single time you see them, four dudes and a pretty girl walk up onstage, shyly greet the small yet enthusiastic-as-fuck crowd, play a few songs, take a breather, play some more. Before your eyes, the mundane becomes special, the ordinary becomes extraordinary. There's no make-up, no pyrotechnics, no glitz and glamour. If the guitarist picks up a violin bow and starts to caress his intrument with it, it doesn't come off as pretentious, or experimental, or even that odd; it just kind of works well with the song, so he stuck it in there. I could go on and on and on about the set, and what they played, and why they were good, and why I love them, and why everyone should love them, but that would be unnecessary. So I'll keep it short. DoP are awesome. Period. © 2004 snapandclap.org. get your hands off our content, motherfucker! |
